In the meantime, we’ve provided you with an overview of some of the high-tech tools we use for your family’s care.

CEREC for Same-Day Dental Crowns

We use a system called CEREC so you can get dental crowns from us in a single day. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. You don’t need to know the acronym; you just need to know how much simpler it is to get a crown or other dental restorations with CEREC.

The usual process for getting a crown involves taking impressions of your teeth, then sending them to an outside dental lab where it can take weeks to produce your restoration. You’ll wear a temporary crown while you wait.

With CEREC, we take digital impressions of your teeth. Then we use special 3D software to design your crown. The design is transmitted to a milling machine in our office, which precisely produces your crown from a single block of ceramic.

The whole process is computerized to minimize the possibility of human error. If any modifications are needed, though, it’s easy for us to make adjustments. With an outside lab, you’ll again wear a temporary while your restoration goes back for rework. In addition to crowns, we can use CEREC for inlays, onlays, and dental bridges.

Cone Beam CT to Plan Your Dental Procedures

We use a special 3D X-ray called cone-beam computed tomography to plan procedures like oral surgery or dental implant placement. With a single scan, we can see not just your teeth but soft tissue, underlying bone, and nerve endings. This allows us to do things like find areas where your bone is strongest for implant placement. We can also identify potential complications like impacted teeth before a procedure begins.

You simply sit still while an arm quickly rotates around your head, producing multiple images from different angles. The whole process takes less than a minute! The sophisticated software then assembles the images to create a single, comprehensive 3D view.

DIAGNOdent & VELscope, for Thorough Dental Exams

Our Attleboro, MA dentists use high-tech dentistry even for routine care like your bi-annual exams. To find cavities even before they can be seen by the naked eye, they use a handheld tool called DIAGNOdent. Laser fluorescence causes areas that may contain cavities to light up as they examine you.

This makes your exams more comfortable because there is less poking and prodding with tools like probes. Finding cavities in their early stages is important because we can easily treat them with a filling. If decay worsens, you may end up needing a more extensive dental restoration like a crown.

They also use a handheld tool called VELscope to detect possible signs of oral cancer. The five-year survival rate for oral cancer that doesn’t spread is 83 percent. The number falls to 62 percent if it gets into lymph nodes and 38 percent if it spreads elsewhere. Because dentists regularly examine your mouth, they are more likely to detect early signs of cancer than your physician.

Like DIAGNOdent, VELscope uses laser fluorescence. Abnormalities in tissues that could indicate cancer glow under the laser. If necessary, our dentists will advise you to see a physician for a biopsy.

Dental Specialists Give You Complete Care

Technology isn’t worth much without the right people using it. We employ several dentists who have received years of specialized training after earning their dental degrees.

Many general dentists are willing to perform root canals. But wouldn’t you rather have your procedure performed by an endodontist, a doctor who specializes in treating issues involving the soft center of your tooth? In addition to an endodontist, you can be treated by:

  • An orthodontist, who specializes in straightening teeth and giving you a perfectly aligned bite. Our orthodontist uses either traditional metal braces or Invisalign aligners, depending on your needs.
  • A periodontist, who specializes in diagnosing and treating gum disease and also in placing dental implants. Because gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults, we think it’s important you can get your treatment from an expert!
